Deep Space Nine: The Final Chapter
3: Strange Bedfellows

Weyoun has Worf and Ezri put in the same cell on the Dominion ship for the trip back to Cardassia.  After struggling to maintain her form the female Founder enters and addresses the Breen leader Thot Gor about the alliance and a formal treaty which will allow them to eliminate the Federation alliance.  Reading the treaty Damar is outraged that the Dominion is handing over Cardassian planets to the Breen without his knowledge.  Weyoun shuts him down, ordering him to sign the treaty without reading the fine print, saying that the big picture, wiping out the Federation is more important.  Seething, Damar wants reinforcements sent to Septimus III, currently under siege by Klingons.  Weyoun promises that Septimus III will be dealt with.  On DS9 Martok and Sisko finish talking about war plans and turn to talking about Sisko's new marriage to Kasidy.  Martok likens marriage to a "long, grueling, intoxicating" war.  Dukat continues manipulating Winn, saying that the Prophets warned her about the Emissary straying from his course.  Dax and Worf are imprisoned on the Dominion ship, they realize that they can do nothing as they are hanging upside down from the ceiling.  Kasidy finds it difficult being married to the Emissary, noticing that even her own crew are acting differently serving under the wife of the Emissary.  Sisko tries to get Kasidy to perform an annual ceremony to bless the Bajoran women who wish to be mothers, but Kasidy declines.  On Cardassia Worf and Ezri continue trying to plot an escape.  The mention of Jadzia sparks an argument, but they are interrupted when Weyoun and Damar arrive and announce that they are to be tried as war criminals and executed.  Weyoun says they will be spared if they give the Dominion information.  Weyoun taunts Ezri about her feelings for Julian, Worf snaps Weyouns neck, killing him.  Damar laughs and says that Weyouns death changes nothing, they must either cooperate or die.  On DS9 Winn has a second Prophet vision.  She says she has met the guide and is ready.  These Prophets ask her to help cast the "false Prophets" out from the wormhole and reveal themselves to actually be the Pah-wraiths.  Horrified Winn demands an orb be brought so she can beg forgiveness from the Prophets.  On Cardassia Damar is joined during a drink by a new Weyoun clone (Weyoun 8), who invites Thot Gor into the command center and gives him full access to Cardassian files, to Damars chagrin.  Worf and Dax manage to force the door and escape from the cell and knock out the guards.  Worf is shot in the leg and tells Ezri to leave him, she refuses and they are recaptured.  On DS9 Quark, O'Brien and Bashir bemoan Worf and Ezri's absence.  Winn gazes into the orb but gets no response from the Prophets.  Dukat tells her he is a servant of the Pah-wraiths and that he and Winn were brought together for a purpose.  He reminds her that the Prophets have never spoken to her or done anything for her.  She throws him out.  Later she calls Kira to her quarters for counsel.  Kira advises her to turn away from temptation and step down as Kai.  Winn is unwilling to give up her power.  On Cardassia Damar gets news that Septimus III has fallen, an entire order wiped out.  Weyoun tells Damar to look at the big picture, saying that as part of the Dominion Cardassia will make whatever sacrifices the Dominion demands.  Damar storms out.  Having finally made peace with each other Worf and Ezri wait to be executed.  Ezri admits her feelings for Julian, Worf admits that he saw only the ghost of Jadzia.  Damar arrives and leads Worf and Ezri from the cell.  He then kills the Jem'Hadar guards and gives Worf and Dax the guards weapons and directions to a patrol ship.  Ezri asks why he's helping them, Damar answers that he wants them to convey a message to the Federation: they have a friend on Cardassia.  Worf and Dax quickly make their escape.  In the command center Weyoun is furious about the escape, but becomes nervous when he is summoned by the Founder.  On DS9 Winn, feeling abandoned by the Prophets decides to ally with the Pah-wraiths.  She and Dukat pledge to destroy the Federation, the Prophets and the Emissary.

A lot going on here.  Worf and Dax come to terms with each other and agree to be friends, Dukat continues manipulating Winn, Winn turns to the Pah-wraiths and with Dukat vows to destroy the Prophets and Sisko.  And the Dominion and the Breen are now allies.  Strange Bedfellows indeed.  Damar finally has enough of Weyoun and of the Dominion treating his people like cannon fodder and turns, helping Worf and Ezri escape to relay a message.  Lots of character development here, especially in the Worf/Ezri story, Damar, and the Dukat/Winn story.  Winn's power hungry nature means she cannot fathom abdicating and losing her position, and she feels ignored by the Prophets and so decides to side with Dukat and the Pah-wraiths.

Quotes:

Worf: We must get back to the station and warn Starfleet about the Breen.
Ezri: You're right.  There's just a few problems.  We're on a Jem'Hadar ship, heading in the wrong direction, hanging upside down, and…
Worf: And what?
Ezri: I think I'm getting space-sick.

Damar: Overconfidence.  The hallmark of the Weyouns.  Maybe the Founders should eliminate that from your genetic recipe next time!

Damar: They'll just make another copy of him, you know.  You should've killed me.  There's only one Damar.
