TNG Episode Tier List Season 1

TNG Episode Tier List
Season 1

1/2 Encounter at Farpoint
The pilot.  I personally don't think it's that bad.  Probably biased because I'm a TNG fan.  A Tier

3 The Naked Now
This one always got a bad rep because it was so close to the TOS episode.  I thought it was a good thing.  Really ties the two series together.  A Tier

4 Code of Honor
Uggh.  Bad.  Just bad.  Racist, sexist episode, even without all of that it would have been mediocre at best.  As it is: total crap.  F tier

5 Haven
The one where we meet Troi's mother and Troi is supposedly getting married to her betrothed. C Forgettable.  There's a reason I never watch this one

6 Where No One Has Gone Before
Definitely A tier.  Very underrated episode.  I'd almost say one of the best of the season.

7 The Last Outpost
The first Ferengi episode.  Not a bad episode, but there are definitely much better.  Nothing that really stands out.  Ehh... B tier.

8 Lonely Among Us
Picard gets taken over by an energy being from a nebula the Enterprise passes by.  Forgettable.  C

9 Justice
Uggh. Heavy handed message, plus the aliens costumes were skimpy TOS William Ware Theiss creations that really don't work in TNG.  A boring episode.  Forgettable.  C

10 The Battle
A slightly better Ferengi episode.  Also good world building with Picard's past and the Stargazer.  B

11 Hide and Q
B Mediocre at best.  Probably the least of the Q episodes.

12 Too Short a Season
Mehh…bland story line, acting is...ok.  The Admirals makeup as an old man kinda sucks.  D

13 Angel One
The planet run by women.  Basically a commentary on present day sexism/male superiority.  Ok concept, boring episode.  D

14 Datalore
Liked this one.  Brent Spiner was great, great world building, the Crystalline Entity was cool, Wesley was even good in this one.  Also the origin of the "shut up Wesley!" meme.  A

15 Angel One
The planet run by women.  Basically a commentary on present day sexism/male superiority.  Ok concept, boring episode.  D

16 11001001
This one I actually kinda liked.  Minuet was a high point of the episode.  Underrated.  A

17 Home Soil
The Microbrain. "Ugly bags of mostly water".  This one is interesting, and it has its good points, but also its not so good points.  Mediocre. B

18 When the Bough Breaks
Dull, Forgettable.  Storyline is crap - aliens kidnapping the children on the ship.  Yawn.  F

19 Coming of Age
Wesley's first attempt to get into the academy.  Forgettable.  C

20 Heart of Glory
Klingons.  It was nice to see Worf and some other Klingons, but overall mediocre. B

21 The Arsenal of Freedom
It’s cool that we get saucer separation, and Geordi in command, but other than that the episode doesn't off a lot.  Also the chief engineer who butts heads with Geordi is a dick (easy to see why he didn't last long on the Enterprise).  Forgettable.  C

22 Skin of Evil
I'm tempted to give this one a C as it’s definitely not memorable, except for the fact the it's the episode where Tasha dies.  All things considered (the way Tasha died, also Armus "costume" is laughable) I'll give it a B.

23 Symbiosis
Uggh... the drug addiction allegory episode.  Mediocre at best, honestly pretty forgettable.  C

24 We'll Always Have Paris
Is ok.  Michelle Phillips is the big guest star, we get more world building on Picard's background.  The time travel thing is kinda cool.  B

25 Conspiracy
The effects were actually really good for 1988.  Great story line (very dark).  Would have loved to have seen this one followed up on later.  Great acting.  Dare I say A.

26 The Neutral Zone
The Romulans were good (first time we've seen them all season), the B story with the 20th century people from the capsule was ok, mostly used for comic relief.  An Ok episode.  B
