TNG Episode Tier List Season 3
TNG Episode Tier ListSeason 3
49 The Ensigns of Command
It’s an ok episode. A decent Data-centric story, would not really be that memorable if not for the Sheliak. B
Dr. Stubbs’ probe and the nanites. It’s decent. Some good Wesley stuff, also it’s good that we get an explanation for where Dr. Crusher was been. Overall: B
51 The Survivors
Ehh...is ok, not a bad episode, but not particularly memorable. Mediocre really. B
A good Prime Directive story. Sets the mold for later stories like Star Trek Insurrection. Underrated. A
Interesting, I kinda wish we had gotten some kind of follow up on Jeremy Aster, the boy who Worf bonded to his house. A
People give this one a lot of crap for Geordi and Holo-Leah Brahms, I thought this one was ok. An interesting take on the holodeck. B
A good Romulan episode. Introduces Tomalak, also we get to know the Romulans via the centurion and Geordi’s interactions on the planet. A
The Barzan Wormhole. It’s ok, it does set up the Bajoran Wormhole from DS9, also the Ferengi that get stranded on the other side are revisited in Voyager. B
“Yuta, of the clan Tralesta”. I actually like this one. Good story, good acting, especially from the guest actors and Frakes. Underrated. A
My all-time favorite Romulan episode. James Sloyan played the hell out of his guest role as the Romulan defector. Between this episode and The Enemy we really get a feel for the Romulans in TNG’s time. Overall a great episode. A
This one...is ok, not disinteresting. Not particularly memorable, but not a bad episode. Some good acting, especially from guest star James Cromwell. B
A good episode, tackling the topic of terrorist attacks. Nothing really special about it, but not bad. B
The obligatory Q episode this season, this time Q without his powers. Interesting premise, some good moments, lackluster execution. B
Not a huge fan of this one. Courtroom drama episode where Riker almost gets framed. Although from the start it’s pretty obvious. C
What else is there to say that hasn’t already been said. S tier
Data’s daughter. Cool concept, great episode, the Admiral kinda came off as a bit of a dick for wanting to separate Data and Lal, but in the end he got his comeuppance. A
The beginning of the “Worf arc” in TNG. Nice to see the Klingon homeworld and the machinations of Klingon society. A great outing for Michael Dorn (Worf), also Tony Todd as Kurn. Introducing Duras as a great adversary for Worf. A
Picard is captured, his doppelganger is on the Enterprise. Interesting, but not particularly memorable. C
Vash! Some action for the captain. Overall a good episode. A fun action romp after some more serious episodes. A
OK premise, Interesting character in Tam Elbram, a look at developmental problems. The Romulans felt underutilized in this episode (honestly they could’ve been just about any aliens). The idea of a living starship is cool. B
Barclay. Barclay gets addicted to the holodeck. Barclay saves the day. Other than the introduction of Barclay nothing remarkable. B
The collector who steals Data. Not one of my favorites. That’s not a knock on the episode, just my opinion. Nothing particularly special about this one. B
We finally really get to see an original series character. Mark Lenard gives a great performance as always, also Sareks health decline mirrors Gene Roddenberry’s decline about the same time. This is definitely near the top of my list. S tier just for having Mark Lenard.
The season’s Lwaxana Troi show. Finally starting to use Lwaxana as more than just comedy. Also we get a better inside look at the Ferengi. Wesley becomes a full ensign, that’s cool. Overall B
I liked the storyline in this one, the species evolving, very much in line with “Seeking out new life and new civilizations”. Crusher’s feelings for her patient seem a little unprofessional, but other than that an ok episode. B
The Borg are here! A Borg ship invading the Federation, Picard captured and assimilated, and one of the greatest cliffhanger season endings ever. S tier. No contest.
