TNG Episode Tier List Season 4

TNG Episode Tier List
Season 4

75 The Best of Both Worlds part 2
The conclusion of possibly the greatest cliffhanger two-parter ever.  The battle of Wolf 359, Locutus, all of it.  S

76 Suddenly Human
This one’s ok.  The human child raised among a former enemy.  An interesting concept.  The episode is nothing special.  B

77 Brothers
Lore again.  And Dr. Soong.  Because he’s playing 3 different characters, it’s really Brent Spiner’s episode.  Also established the emotion chip.  B

78 Family
The aftermath of Best of Both Worlds.  It’s nice that we get to see a little bit of -if not serialization- then continuity.  Events as big as the Borg attack and Picard’s assimilation have lasting impacts.  A

79 Remember Me
An interesting one.  The Traveler returns, also Crusher’s universe within the bubble. Good episode.  B

80 Legacy
Tasha Yar’s sister (and homeworld).  An ok episode.  Nice to bring up Tasha again.  B

81 Reunion
The “Worf arc” part 2.  K’ehyler, Duras, Gowron, Klingon political intrigue.  Good characters, good acting, good story.  Also introduces Alexander, K’Ehleyr and Worf’s son.  A

82 Future Imperfect
A good Riker episode.  An alien child captures Riker and puts him in a simulation of a possible future.  It turns out that the alien kid is just lonely after losing his mother.  B

83 Final Mission
Wesley’s final mission on the Enterprise before going to Starfleet Academy.  Other than some good Picard/Wesley stuff, nothing that really stands out much about the episode.  C

84 The Loss
The Enterprise gets drawn into a cosmic string by 2 dimensional aliens and Troi goes bonkers because she loses her empathic powers.   C

85 Data's Day
Nice new idea for an episode: following data through a day on the enterprise.  Also building O’briens character and introducing Keiko (and the Obrien’s wedding).  Plus the Romulan storyline which is fine.  B

86 The Wounded
Introducing the Cardassians.  Plus using this to build on O’Brien (his back story and the history between the Federation and Cardassians).  Bob Gunton and Marc Alaimo were great in this, as was Colm Meaney who really got to shine.  A

87 Devil's Due
Another reused Star Trek Phase 2 script.  The episode is fine.  Nothing special, but it’s fine.  A con artist poses as the planets “devil” to extort the planet.  B

88 Clues
Data is ordered by Picard to lie to protect the crew.  Also more Dixon Hill.  Interesting.  B

89 First Contact
Riker gets captured while undercover on a pre-warp planet.  Prime directive stuff happens.  Is ok.  C

90 Galaxy's Child
Space baby suckling on the Enterprise, plus Leah Brahms – the real one.  It’s ok, nothing special.  C

91 Night Terrors
A darker, creepier episode.  The entire crew of the other ship killed each other, and the whole lack of REM sleep thing, plus the alien ship on the other side of the rift communicating through Troi.  Definitely some good moments.  B

92 Identity Crisis
Geordi and other officers are infected and transform into aliens from a planet they all visited years ago.  C

93 The Nth Degree
Barclay becomes super genius Barclay.  A good episode.  B

94 Qpid
Q!  And Vash!  And Picard and co. as Robin Hood and his merry men in Sherwood forest.  A fun romp.  A

95 The Drumhead
Straight up commentary on McCarthyism.  Also Picard's bit at the end of the trial turning the Admirals fathers own words about rights and free speech against the admiral and her having a meltdown-that scene alone gets this into A tier.

96 Half a Life
We finally get a bit more serious Lwaxana episode.  Good guest stars in this one, David Ogden Stiers, Michelle Forbes.  Not a personal favorite, but a good episode.  B

97 The Host
The episode that gave us the Trill (which we would see in detail in DS9 with Dax).  Good episode, some interesting Dr. Crusher stuff.  B

98 The Mind's Eye
The Manchurian Candidate in space.  Also the minor tie-ins with Klingons/Romulans stuff and the “Worf arc”.  A

99 In Theory
Data experiments with a relationship, the Enterprise goes through a nebula.  C

100 Redemption part 1
The season cliffhanger, and the first part of the two part conclusion to the “Worf arc”.  A
