Part 5: Nu Trek: the late 24th (and 25th) centuries

Lower Decks

The first animated Trek series in the modern era featured the main crew in uniforms obviously inspired by the TNG costumes.  The Lower Decks uniforms feature a weird white piping between the black yoke (actually a dark grey not back) and the colored body and a very high collar and a division colored stripe down the edge of the flap.  The boots also feature the department color on the soles for some reason.  The LD/SNW crossover episode "Those Old Scientists" features live action versions of these uniforms.  The wraparound front flap design is inspired by the abandoned uniforms designed for but not used in Generations.

Prodigy

The CGI animated Star Trek Prodigy saw Starfleet officers in an updated version of the Lower Decks style uniforms with the white and division colored pipings removed and solid black boots.  This is better and more trek-like.  These uniforms are also very TNG in style.  As this series takes place in 2383-2385 and Lower Decks in 2380-2382, I'm not sure why we needed two different uniforms.  Apparently TPTB don't understand what the "uni" in uniform means.

Picard

For the 2385 flashback scenes in season one (also in Prodigy's series finale) a new style was seen, designed by Christine Bieselin Clark.  The design is definitely interesting, with the shoulder and sleeve striping showing division color being diagonal.  I'm not sure how practical those angled, pointed cuffs would be for a duty uniform.  Maybe for a dress uniform or flag officer.  The collar is very much a return to the TNG uniform collar.  

For season 1 in the present (2399) a different style of uniform was seen, this one very, very similar to the DS9/VOY uniforms (also Wesley's cadet uniform), with the color at the top (shoulder/yoke) and the rest black.  As is the fashion of trek uniforms since the Kelvin movies, the color is in a print instead of solid.  The collar is the same color as the yoke (department color).  The undershirt is black here instead of DS9/VOYs grey.

For seasons 2 and 3 a new uniform design was introduced for the 25th century.  The shirt is a wraparound style with the department color on the yoke and a thin stripe down the flap and the rest black.  Noticeably the colors are quite desaturated, making the command red not stand out against the black.  The black undershirts are retained from the previous uniforms, with a thin division colored strip across the chest.  The pants for these uniforms featured division colored piping down the sides of the legs.  These uniforms strike me as a blend of the Lower Decks, All Good Things and DS9/VOY uniforms.
